Ellie's House Honey
About Us
Ellie is an Airedale terrier who lives in Bishop's Stortford. Between taking her for long walks, her family also keeps several beehives, each inhabited by many thousands of bees.
-
Some of these bees live in Stortford and feed on the blossoms of Grange Paddocks and Sworder's Field to create our wonderful local Grange Paddocks Honey.
-
Some forage in woodland around Westland Green in rural Hertfordshire and gather their pollen from there, making the unique and flavourful Ellie's Wood Honey.
-
Another bunch of bees prefer the flowers of Much Hadham's renowned village gardens, producing the popular Ellie's Field Honey.
Try them all and see which you prefer!
All our honey is extracted naturally by hand and is mechanically filtered to remove wax cappings and the occasional stray bee. We pour all the raw golden goodness into steam sterilised jarrs which are immediately sealed them to ensure maximum freshness.
We DO NOT mix varieties or different harvests. Every jar we sell can be traced to a specific location (often even the hive!) and harvest date.
Hayfever Sufferers
It has been said that eating a spoonful of a honey a day can help alleviate the symptoms. Honey produced by bees close to where you live is particularly effective, as it can help build resistance to local pollen. Though we can't vouch for this scientifically, anecdotally Ellie's family has definitely found this useful.
Of course - if you do get the sniffles (from pollen or otherwise) there's nothing nicer to help cure them than a nice cup of honey and lemon in hot water!
